A New Spot To Sit and Spin

I’ve started trying to pay better attention to my posture while sitting at my wheel - taking frequent breaks so as not to stress my neck or back. I realized that the hard-seated dining room chair I was using just wasn’t comfortable. I spotted this chair at the flea market and thought I’d give it a try. I’m pretty sure it would have been a chair used with a sewing machine – maybe late 50’s early 60’s.

The legs adjust with wing nuts. It’s highest position is a good height for me, and it has just a little padding- which helps.

I love that the seat comes off to reveal a compartment I can stash stuff in- even though I usually don’t stash, but leave things laying about.

I even like the vinyl cover and the brass tacks (I have weird taste).I don’t really like the way I stick to it in the heat we’ve been having though - so I popped a vintage table cloth on it as a makeshift slipcover for now.

All in all I’m happy with my new spot to sit and spin.

A Find

I found this Luna Moth on the driveway the other morning. It took me a moment to realize what it was as the wings were scattered. A bird must have gotten it. I wanted to document it's striking beauty, and so I'm sharing it here. I've read that the Luna holds symbolic meaning. I also know that hickory trees are a favorite habitat. We have a hedgerow lined with old hickory trees, but since they fly mostly at night I'm thinking the chances of seeing a live moth would be slim. Still I suppose there's a chance.

Savor

I saw this at the local fancy food market. Have to admit what intrigued me most about it was just what they might mean by “figurines”. I love a prize inside.

So I brought it home, tried it, loved it, and am highly recommending it… spicy and chocolaty, but not too sweet. Most fun of all is the surprise of tiny chocolate shapes mixed throughout.

They melt for the most part but leave a tiny bit of the most delicious chocolate in the bottom of the cup. You’ll want to keep your spoon handy so you can capture it.

This little vintage children’s mug is just the right thing to sip it out of, lost sheep on one side...

Bo Peep on the other and just the right size to be reminded to savor.

A Find

I love rummaging. I found this "Pie Taker" at my local junque shoppe. It's a little worn...seen many pies... note the marks left by taping it closed. I'm giving it a new life as a place to keep my thread.

Findings

I love rummaging, scavenging, treasure hunting…. through antique “malls”. flea markets, church , yard, barn sales ….. you name it. I find I’m drawn to pretty simple things. What you might call everyday objects. Objects with character that have seen some use. I really enjoy finding out little tidbits of information about an object and ruminating on the specifics of what drew me to it.

I picked this Stanley Aladdin Thermos up at a church rummage sale. I love its classic lines, that shade of green, the little silver tone cup, and the handle bolted around with those rings. In these parts this thermos probably went to work in the GM shop and might have gone on many hunting or fishing trips.

On the Stanley site I learned that this company was the first to use steel in place of glass for insulation way back in 1913 and “that green” (known as Hammer Tone Green) was introduced in 1953. Looks like a previous owner may have improvised the handle. I don’t see any others like it on the company site.

While I enjoy just gazing at my thermos, it does seem a shame not to put it to work. I’m planning on bringing it along the next time I head out to paint.
